Captain's Corner |
Last Sunday, Alan, Eric, Pat
and I had the pleasure of training another wave of
Shell riders at our last scheduled bike
safety session.
For the few out
there who did not heed the team safety call, you
will be hearing from me shortly. The message
will be clear &
simple, either meet the team
safety requirement by the end of March or ride with
someone else. Remember, if you live more
than
75 miles outside downtown Houston, you need to watch
this online safety
video. If
you live within 75 miles from downtown Houston,
you need to attend one of the following
bike
safety classes.
Whether
you watch the video or attend a bike safety class, you
must inform us by e-mail upon
completion.

CP Training Series |
|

This
weekend's CP ride will be at New Ulm and will
feature a few of the steepest and
longest hills of the training series. Route
options are 38 and 58 miles. The ride will
start from Fireman's Park which has
limited parking so you'll need to
carpool.
Remember to always
check the
official CP website
for directions and
up to the minute
ride details.

Safety Corner |
|

Your safety instructors have
thoroughly enjoyed working with you over the last
couple of months and look forward to an
Incident Free MS150 for Team
Shell. A brief but essential recap of the key
points from the training sessions
follows:
1. Protect your front
wheel.
2. Cornering - Hands in
the drops and weight on the outside foot while
leaning the bike into the turn.
3. Obstacle
Avoidance - The wheel goes where your
eyes focus.
Train your
eyes to look to the left
or the to right of
an obstacle.
4. Emergency
Stopping - Plan Ahead. Have an
emergency exit plan all the time.
5.
Paceline - Don't overlap your front wheel
with the rider
in front of you. Stay one wheel
length behind.

Fundraising |
|
What a fantastic job everyone
is doing! As of March 10, we moved up one notch to
3rd place in
the overall team
fundraising. We are at $92,000 but we must not let
our guard down - we still have a long
way before reaching our $300,000 goal.
