Captain's Corner |
Only
24 Days until the 2009 MS150! If this is
your first year on the tour, please refer to last week's
newsletter for important info about what to expect
during the MS150
weekend.
With
only 3 weekends left, your training should already
be in high gear. By now, you should be
doubling up on weekend rides, spending approx 3-4
hrs on the saddle per ride, doing hills as part of
your weekly routine, and exercising at the gym 3-4 times
a
week.
With the weather getting
warmer, you need to become familiar with proper Hydration &
Nutrition practices. Hydration
continues to be the number one cause of
medical incidents on the tour, especially among new
riders. Please do your homework and avoid being
part of the
statistics.
Bear in mind that this is
a bike tour, not a race. Please adjust your riding
appropriately. As members of Team
Shell, we are all expected to be good
ambassadors in the community and uphold the
MS150 Cycling
Etiquette.

CP Training Series |
|

This Saturday's
ride at Chappell Hill will without a doubt be the epic
ride of our CP training series, from scenery to the
number and quality of hills. Don't miss
it!!! Route options will be 40
and 63 miles. Chappell Hill is
extremely limited on parking space so
you'll need to carpool. Also, plan on getting
there early.
Remember to
check the
official CP website
for directions and
up to the minute
ride details.

Packet Pick-UP &
Jersey
Distribution |
|
We're looking forward to
seeing you at our private packet
pick-up on Monday, March 30,
11am-1pm, at
the Auditorium in
One Shell Plaza (OSP), downtown
Houston. Remember to
bring your signed Waiver Form. Picking up
packets for friends/family will
be allowed but
requires their signed
waivers.
Become a "Bike MS
Champion" - ask for a "Blue Bandana" at
packet pick-up and wear it with pride during the
ride to symbolize your support for the
cause.
All riders
should complete their emergency contact
information on the back of their Bib number
(provided in the packet) before attaching it
to their
jersey.
The team jersey
will also be distributed at
OSP. The next distribution will be on
Friday April 17, at baggage
drop-off. | |

Safety Corner |
|

Anyone who has not completed
their on-bike safety training (or the online safety
video where applicable), time is running out. You
have until next Tuesday to meet this
requirement.
A quick reminder of some
of the key safety tips to keep in mind while
riding:
1. Protect your front
wheel.
2. Cornering - Hands in
the drops and weight on the outside foot while
leaning the bike into the turn.
3. Obstacle
Avoidance - The wheel goes where your
eyes focus.
Train your
eyes to look to the left
or the to right of
an obstacle.
4. Emergency
Stopping - Plan Ahead. Have an
emergency exit plan all the time.
5.
Paceline - Don't overlap your front wheel
with the rider
in front of you. Stay one wheel
length behind.
Lastly, don't forget to get
your bike inspected (FREE until April 11) at
one of the Official MS150 Bike Stores. The
inspection sticker will entitle you to FREE
mechanical service (except parts) throughout the
MS150 weekend.
