Below are a listing of frequently asked questions. If you have a question that isn't addressed here, please send us an Email.

GENERAL

Q: When it says that each Shell employee can have one guest, does that mean that between the two of you you have to raise $400, or does each person have to raise this amount?
A:
Each cyclist registered for the MS150 must raise the minimum $400 pledge.

Q: Does Shell have a program to match the donations that team riders collect?
A:
Good question!  We have tried to get this type of funding in the past, but have not been successful.

Q: If I have registered with the NMSS and find I can't participate in this year's BP MS 150 ride, can I transfer my slot to another rider?
A:
The National MS Society does not allow any registration transfers between riders, and Team Shell adheres to this official policy. Refer to the Team Info Page for more details.

SAFETY TRAINING AND REQUIREMENTS

Q: Have the On-Bike Safety courses been scheduled?
A:
The safely focal points are finalizing the dates, and they will be announced very soon.

MS150 WEEKEND

Q: What goes on during the MS 150 weekend?
A: Details will be coming shortly that should answer your questions.  The short answer is that we start at the Shell Woodcreek location (less than 1 mile from main MS150 start at Tully Stadium).  The first day is about 100 miles, and the second varies from 50-80 miles, depending on which route you decide to follow.  The most scenic Day 2 route takes you through “the Park”, Bastrop and Buescher State Park areas, which are shady, have great smooth pavement, tree canopies – and hills!  Nothing is better than a fast coast down a hill after a challenging climb up.

Q: Does Shell provide transportation back from Austin?
A:
No, the NMSS provides bus transportation for a low cost each year.  You do not need to sign up during registration as this can be added later.  Many Team Shell cyclists also have family that meet them in Austin and drive back with them.

PREPARATION AND TRAINING FOR THE MS150

Q: One of the toughest and most embarrassing questions facing a new cyclist is "do I wear underwear under my padded cycling shorts?"

A: Conventional wisdom is not to wear underwear under your cycling shorts due to chaffing concerns.  Also, you should not re-wear your cycling shorts which is why we strongly recommend you bring one extra pair of
cycling shorts for the second day of the MS150.  If you want to show your team spirit, it is common to hand wash your jersey in the shower and wear it the second day (unlike shorts, jerseys dry very quickly when
you hang them up).

Q: If I sign up for the Conoco Phillips Training Series, does this include the BPMS150 Recommended rides?
A:
NO.  The Conoco Philips team runs the CP program, while each of the BPMS150 Recommended rides benefits a different charity.  The NMSS began “recognizing” rides well-run in the last few years and put them on their website.  This year, the list includes just about all charity rides as many have improved  to be on the list.

Q: Can anyone sign up for the CP ride series?
A:
Shell is one of the select teams that participates with CP, and it is one of the perks of being on Team Shell.  For a low price, you get to ride up to 12 weeks on planned routes, fully supported with SAG and rest stops.

Q: What is a “charity” ride?
A:
It is a bicycle ride that offers various distances for the one-time registration fee.  The rides are fully supported (SAG & rest stops) and are well-planned on safe roads in the community.  The cost includes a t-shirt, and often other freebies which may include a water bottle, energy samples, butt butter (to minimize chafing with shorts), and coupons for bike shops.  Most have on-line registration.  The proceeds raised from the registration fees benefit a specific charity group, which usually is volunteering at the rest stops, start/finish, and SAG.  The charity rides are those on the BPMS150 Recommended Rides tab.
